Why We're Building Democracy University
I started organizing with index cards in shoeboxes. The tools have changed. The need for organizers — and leaders — has not.
I have been working in political campaigns since I was in high school. That means I have been doing this for more than forty years. After all those years, Amy Pritchard and I have come to believe something that may sound counterintuitive: the basic organizing skills I learned in the shoebox era are more important in the digital world — not less.

I've been thinking a lot about campaign training manuals lately, which probably isn't a sentence that inspires nostalgia for most people. It does for me. Those rooms are where a huge number of people learned how campaigns actually work — and we're building that again.
